Career Interests / Passions
I am always open to stepping outside my comfort zone to gain new experiences. However, I would love an opportunity to work in the following industries that I am passionate about:
“The only way to do great work is to love what you do.”
I was very excited when I was old enough to be permitted into my school’s computer lab. My school taught us how to program using basic. I thoroughly enjoyed the programming experience and persuaded my parents to buy me a PC to continue practicing at home. My first computer had windows 3.1 and MS-DOS. Computers back in the day were not as user-friendly or advanced, but I still have fond memories of playing DOS games like Prince of Persia and Dangerous Dave.
I grew up with the internet, taught myself how to code and design websites using HTML and CSS. I earned a bachelor’s degree in Software Engineering in Dec 2009. Since then, I have developed, managed, and supported various applications and gained a firm understanding of the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC), Software as a Service (SaaS), and User Experience (UX) Design. Lately, I have been learning more about Dev Ops. My technical skills and competencies will be an asset for any IT/Software Development project, product or service.
When I was growing up, I wanted to become a doctor. However, all of that changed once I got my PC and learned how to program. I just didn’t realize it till it was time for me to pick a university for higher education. In India, the science stream is divided into 2 branches – medical (PCB) and non-medical (PCM). While Physics and Chemistry are compulsory for both, the medical stream offers Biology as the third mandatory subject, and the non-medical stream offers Mathematics. After studying PCB for two years, instead of pursuing a medical degree, I decided to get my bachelor’s degree in Software Engineering.
After earning my bachelor’s degree in Dec 2009, I was offered an opportunity to work at Mach7 Technologies, a company that provides healthcare imaging software solutions. It was a perfect fit for me as it allowed me to experience both the worlds of healthcare and software development. With almost 8 years of experience, I am still passionate about working in the Healthcare IT/Medical Imaging domain.
I have always been passionate about games and gaming as a medium to spread awareness. I have been playing games since I was a kid. When I was younger, I would look forward to completing my homework assignments so that I could continue exploring endlessly, plunge deeper into the storyline and immerse myself in the exciting game worlds.
I was born and brought up in Mumbai, India. While my family is very open-minded and supportive, it has been tough being a female who enjoys male-dominated hobbies. Younger generations are striving to embody equality in all fields, but there are still not enough women participating in the game industry. Most game companies play it safe and cater more towards the male audience, rather than providing equal customization options or adding female protagonists. I want to work in the game industry and encourage girls and women to explore it as a career to help right this imbalance! Given the opportunity, I would love to impart my gaming experiences to make games more inclusive so that everyone can enjoy them all the same!
I have enjoyed watching animated shows (western & eastern) since my childhood. Disney shows and movies were not easily accessible in India when I was a kid, but they are still a significant part of my childhood. I remember watching Duck Tales every Sunday morning religiously even though I had to wake up earlier than usual. I grew up watching movies like Beauty and the Beast that made me read more books because I wanted to be just like Belle.
When I first saw Mulan, my spirits soared high. I remember telling everyone that girls were also capable of fighting and being courageous. I could endlessly share how Disney has helped shape me into the person I am today. I thought that maybe I would love these movies less when I grew up, but I was wrong! I couldn’t stop crying when I first saw Coco in theatres. I have watched the movie countless times, but even as a grown adult, I can’t help but shed tears towards the end (spoiler warning!) when Miguel plays Remember Me for Mama Coco. Disney shows and movies have the power to touch people’s hearts and make them feel deeply. I would love an opportunity to become a part of the story!
My first anime (Japanese animation) show was probably Cardcaptor Sakura, but I didn’t know what anime was or meant at the time. I got hooked on anime and manga, the Japanese comics that these shows are based on, because of their compelling storylines and beautiful artwork. I have watched over 350+ shows and movies including Naruto, Fullmetal Alchemist, Haikyu!!, Attack on Titan, and Studio Ghibli movies like Spirited Away and Howl’s Moving Castle. Given the opportunity, I would love to contribute to the anime industry.
I taught myself how to build websites using HTML and CSS when I was a teenager. Since then, I have pursued it as a hobby and creative outlet. In the past, I owned other website domains that I used for hosting my blog and other personal sites like fanlistings for various anime (Japanese animation) shows and other topics. Web design and blogging empowered me to express my thoughts and ideas. It enabled me to share them with thousands of people from all around the world who wouldn’t have gotten to know me otherwise.
I try to implement design elements and principles in my work whenever possible. I often get inspired by new ideas and spend a lot of time designing new layouts in photoshop and other editing software. I enjoy making personalized digital cards for my friends and family when time permits. I have built websites utilizing content management systems like WordPress and Drupal. The screenshots of some my past work can be viewed in my portfolio.
